Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with performances like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
