Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
