Elena Rybakina Stuns Aryna Sabalenka to Claim Historic £4 Million Payout
Rybakina secured her 45th hard court triumph of 2025
Rybakina secured the largest reward in women's tennis all time by defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets at the WTA Finals.
Rybakina produced a impressive performance to defeat four-times major winner her opponent in two sets in the host country.
Because each competitor advanced through the event without a loss, the purse on offer was a record-breaking £3.98m – the largest prize awarded in women's tennis history.
The reward exceeds the £3.74m the Belarusian received for winning September's New York major, which was the highest-paying Grand Slam in the current year.

The champion, who was the sixth-ranked player, hit 16 winning shots during a commanding first-set display.
Rybakina saved two break points before taking every point in the sixth game to go a break up and served out to secure the opening set.
With the second set on serve, Sabalenka defended two break points at four-all to shift the balance in her favor.
However, after fighting back to upset Rybakina's rhythm, Sabalenka let her opponent off the hook by wasting two set points in the next game to level the second set at 5-5.
Sabalenka's failure to level the match affected her tiebreak play, with the Kazakh winning all seven points to win the title.
The victory, Rybakina's sixth over her rival, means she will move up one place in the rankings to number five in the world rankings.
A distraught the runner-up appeared to be in tears as she sat with her coaching team shortly after the final.
"That was not the finest display from me today but Rybakina you were definitely the better player," the Belarusian addressed the crowd.
"You really smashed me out of the court. I'm pleased to see you play your best tennis. Enjoy this beautiful title."
