Individual That Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Movie Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped across a fence and grabbed celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told local media.
The man shoved through camera crews and charged at the actress and singer, who was present at the Asian debut for the film on the thirteenth of November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has spoken of dealing with PTSD after a explosive incident at her concert in the UK city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared recordings thanking Grande for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Authorities detained him the subsequent day and accused him with public nuisance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The District Judge the judicial official was cited by a news outlet as stating that the man sought attention, adding that he was mistaken to think he would not experience repercussions.
Grande has not commented on the case.
Cynthia Erivo mentioned the incident to the press, saying that she "simply desired to verify my co-star was protected."
"I think he didn't mean us harm, but you cannot be certain with such situations, and I sought to ensure that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she commented.
