Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
