People have assembled throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled formal commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' representatives convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of indirect talks to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official involved in the talks revealed that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the day's discussions ended without significant progress, because of differences over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence combat after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have still not achieve any significant progress," but noted that mediators are striving to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • Post-war management of the territory

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place seems like home now and until every captive come back no one will feel safe."

"After we see everyone home returned, we can relax once more. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's residence in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Activist Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do every compromise required for the abducted to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now consistently show that about seventy percent of Israelis prefer the hostilities to finish in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to remember the victims.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the night comes, the fear comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack previously, shared.

"My family are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are lying together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Every second we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Emergency

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had taken in the remains of several people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis indicated additional fatalities had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south, medics reported.
