Madeleine McCann Siblings Detail Supposed Stalker's Actions as Extremely Upsetting and Creepy

Madeleine McCann twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, have testified in court that their encounters with an accused harasser were extremely disturbing and unsettling. The siblings explained feeling stressed and scared by a woman who insisted she was their missing sister.

Persistent Communication Detailed as Frightening

Appearing remotely, she described how the defendant, the 24-year-old, contacted her multiple times through online platforms and written correspondence. She said the persistence was very scary because you don’t know what her next move might be.

Communications from the defendant were presented in court, in which she described recollections of living in the McCann household that she claimed were recovered during hypnotherapy. Amelie told the court, It's very upsetting that she's inventing these supposed memories, even though she isn't Maddie.

Altered Images Increased Unease

The court heard that Wandelt had produced images of Amelie and herself as young girls, which the state said were generated with ChatGPT. Some of these images were sent through online channels, while others were printed and enclosed in a letter to Amelie.

Amelie stated, I didn’t like it, it caused me to feel very uneasy. She had clearly edited the images to make me appear similar to her, which was quite distressing. I knew I didn’t look like that, I understood it had been manipulated.

Emotional Impact on the Household

She also spoke about the effect of the supposed harassment on her mother, their mother, who gave evidence about being confronted at her residence by Wandelt and her co-defendant, Karen Spragg.

In my opinion my mum found it the hardest. My mother was targeted by the defendant more than the others in the family and I believe it certainly took its toll on her and her wellbeing, she said. It's distressing when a person is pleading with you to accept their claims and playing with your emotions, to the extent you are doubting your own judgment.

Sibling's Statement on Stress and Digital Scrutiny

In a testimony presented to the trial, Sean McCann said that personally, he had not been too badly affected by Wandelt's alleged stalking. However he had been upset that she was drawing social media scrutiny, with people saying hurtful and unjust things about his mother and father.

If Wandelt was not mentally ill and was fully aware she is not Maddie, yet continues to assert she is, that would be very upsetting for me, he testified. I am convinced she is my sister. The fact that Julia is doing this has resulted in a significant amount of anxiety and I find it profoundly troubling.

The defendant and Spragg have pleaded not guilty to harassing the family household. Proceedings are ongoing.
