The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward qualification for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an Three Lions game since May 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to stage the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their last-16 tie would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Launch and Rally

The tournament was unveiled at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they entered the venue by around fifty protesters, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were displayed with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to family audiences and help reach a wider spectrum of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that do not reach the tournament through the standard process.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals played at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a championship for the fans and a celebration of everything we love about the football – its emotion and power to foster unity.”

In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
