The Grisly Animated Movie Conclusion That Lingers Viewers

Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally watched, nothing has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled conclusion of the viscerally violent and highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director developed a dark, bleak , often savage universe that included several minor , forlorn glimmers of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from an impulse to advance the medium even more, the director clarified that it was rather a try to express a global, cross-cultural message regarding “the shared root of all wars.”

That idea is communicated through a squad of colorful pastel bears , obviously modeled after a well-known series of cuddly characters.

Maturing in a community centered on militarism as well as the defense industry, many of these animals are obsessed with exterminating unicorns, thanks to a holy book that tells them they used to be kings of the woods, before the horned beings forced them out.

Some haven’t fully accepted the propaganda, and prefer to experiment with drugs and mate outdoors.

In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters show genitals , definite libidos.

For a certain especially vicious, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the battle with unicorns transforms into a road to power — and particularly to authority over his gentler, kinder brother the bear Tubby.

Bluey behaves aggressively , a seeming antisocial figure , and when horror overcomes his unit and kills his teammates one by one, he seizes more and more influence on his own behalf, via progressively violent, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, these mythical beings are enduring their own terror, through a growing, deadly beast in their woods.

“In the early stages, it feels like a comedy,” the director commented. “But then it turns into a more intense and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it becomes a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like among the playful movies by a legendary filmmaker, which find a mischievous joy in allowing drawn beings curse, engage in violence, or engage sexually.

Subsequently it becomes more akin to a more grim film from the same creator, with increasingly explicit brutality , a palpable relation to the real horror of war.

By the end, it’s a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.

The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween watch begins much sooner than one might expect.

The Unicorn Wars is suited for the hardcore gorehounds, for lovers of graphic films who wish to see a film they haven’t ever viewed until now, and can endure a plot that offers absolutely no punches.

Watch it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the finale will dig into your mind and stay with you.
