The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
